Week 13: Michigan
Winter break this year for the boys was insanely short. The way the dates fell on the calendar, their first day off was Christmas Eve and their last was New Year’s Day. We had to fit a lot into a very short time and I was definitely sad to send them back. On top of it being Christmas and the New Year, we had a new nephew born, who we were dying to meet. So our last weekend of 2018, we left our visiting, dear friends in charge of our house as they sweetly watched our dog for a few days, along with my brother. We headed off to Michigan. The trip out east is becoming a familiar one for us between visiting my sister’s family and our flights out of and visits to Chicago. It’s not a bad roadtrip. We enjoy the sights along the way, especially once we got in to Michigan. The snow was falling and clinging to all the trees. It looked like a winter wonderland, which led us into a nice a weekend. We saw Steve preach and had a great brunch out. We spent a majority of the rest of the weekend hanging out and giving the cousins time together. There were books, frosting-crazy cookie decorating, coloring all the way down the hall, “shows” the kids put on that involved miming and karate, and a New Year’s Eve party playing games and watching the world ring in the New Year. It was nice to get some bonding time and lots of baby holding time. Sometimes adventures take us to familiar places, relaxing, and spending a little of our time with the ones we love. I am sure we will be back to Michigan very soon.
